Eye Spy Optical is a boutique eyewear company located in Chicago’s Lakeview neighborhood. Since 2013, CHVA has been creating both still and moving images to help market Eye Spy’s storefront.
Capture The Road
In the early years of working together, Eye Spy was a sponsor of a cross-country photography project titled Capture the Road, which was spearheaded by Chris and his friend Amanda Farmer. They took a handful of frames from the store and photographed them on themselves, friends, and other travelers using America as the backdrop of their imagery. CHVA went on to shoot individual frames for the online store.
The Heist Lookbook
Most recently, CHVA produced a 90-second commercial featuring Eye Spy’s owner, Alssia Fields, the self-proclaimed Queen of Specs, in a spy-themed commercial that plays into their name and is meant to engage new customers through social media marketing. The video is unique in the sense that the set was custom built in an 8000 sq ft warehouse–the first of Chris’ major set builds. The goal was to create a completely custom set and backdrop where the video could take place. After years of using preexisting locations, Chris felt compelled to create his world with every bit of control over lighting and set decor, built with his ability to move the camera in and out of rooms that would create great depth and a unique visual experience not yet present in his current work. The commercial also served as Eye Spy’s video lookbook.
The video features local Chicago duo White Mystery who have been close friends as well as strong supporters of Eye Spy for many years.
